Censorship Isn't the Answer Childrens book steps on minefield. "A Little Piece Of Ground," by Elizabeth Laird is the target of a censorship campaign. Groups pressure the publisher to reconsider putting out the novel. [ Toronto Star article] The campaign appears to have originated with a letter written by the co-owner of two children's bookstores in Vancouver. Before the book was released this month, Phyllis Simon, co-owner of Kidsbooks, requested MacMillan UK to reconsider sending out the "damaging book." [LISNews.com] I really liked Laird's "Kiss the Dust," which could also be considered a one-sided view of an international crisis. There are plenty of books that do the same.
