About School Libraries
School Library Perspectives. DEH writes ""More than Just a Pretty Face: and other observations on school libraries and teacher-librarianship" is the title of a webpage created by Donald Hamilton, formerly Education Librarian at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. The page offers a collection of short pithy provocative pieces that appeared in several journals over the past decade. They are offered without charge, to the field for any educational purpose. Check out the classic "Inventory: Folly or Fancy?" that has been reprinted many times. You will find the page at members.shaw.ca/donaldhamilton " [LISNews.com]

Clinton's Favorites
Bill Clinton Lists Favorite Books. Former President William Jefferson Clinton has shared with the world, his list of favorite books. Smoothie that his is, you can find his wife's book, Living History. Monica's Story by Monica Lewinsky is shockingly absent. [LISNews.com]
I've admitted before that I like lists of books.

National Book Awards 2003
Polly Horvath has won the National Book Award for Young People's Literature for her book, The Canning Season. The news articles about the awards ceremony give excerpts from Stephen King's speech accepting the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
In his speech, King addressed the literary community's reluctance to accept commercially successful writers as equals. He decried people who "make a point of pride in saying they have never read anything by John Grisham, Tom Clancy, Mary Higgins Clark or any other popular writer."
"What do you think," he asked the crowd, "you get social academic brownie points for deliberately staying out of touch with your own culture?"
