With the new configuration of the libraries in our school, I will have more responsibility for and more contact with the middle school students than I have since I came here. One change will be that I will be back to booktalking, which I haven't done much in the last couple of years. I need to do some reading and some practicing to get ready for my first sessions, which will probably be with seventh-graders, later in September. They're doing adventure stories in class, and their reading list includes plenty of classics and old-timers. I think I'll start with a set of more recent survival books -- fiction and non-fiction -- since those are books I enjoy myself. It will also give me a chance to use some props. I'll keep my list of possible titles, and perhaps even the booktalks themselves, here on this blog.
