Author Mildred D. Taylor Honored. Mildred D. Taylor has been named laureate of the inaugural $25,000 NSK Neustadt Prize for Children's Literature, awarded by the University of Oklahoma and its international quarterly, World Literature Today. The Prize is a new award. Its purpose is "to enhance the quality of children's literature by promoting writing that contributes to the quality of their lives." [Children's Books]
To add to my musings about international awards for children's literature, this posting led me to an article from World Literature Today that lists several of the most prestigious of these awards.

A posting on the About.com Children's Books blog led me to this article from the China Daily about award-winning Chinese children's books. The article summarizes some of the winners, making me wish that I could read Chinese. And these will probably never be translated into English. I wonder if there is a site that gathers all the children's book awards from around the world, not just the English-language ones. That sounds like a good project for IBBY.
