An interesting article in the Telegraph gives lots of infomration about Philip Pullman, including the fact that he worked as both a librarian and a teacher before settling down to full-time writing. The article also mentions that work is being done on a film version of Northern Lights (The Golden Compass in the US), with screenplay by Tom Stoppard. That should be good!
Thanks to Kids Lit for the reference.

Edgy YA Fiction. The bibliography from a presentation done at the Wisconsin Library Association's Annual Meeting last month in Milwaukee. The presenters are from the revered CCBC in Madison. [Kids Lit]
This is the kind of list I'm always on the lookout for, to check against our collection and against what I have read. This one shows me some major holes in both areas. I'm also interested to see that >A href="http://www.powells.com/cgi-bin/biblio?inkey=7-0689841000-0">Rainbow Boys does not show up in the section called "Books Featuring Gay and Lesbian Protagonists." That book recieved lots of attention at our school two years ago when the author came to speak, but I think it's a very poor example and not one I recommend to students. I need to look at some of the books on this list as alternatives.
