I advise everyone to be careful and thoughtful before installing the 2003-07-14 Security Update. If you notice the VersionTracker Feedback, you'll see several account of passwords simply not working, systems freezing on blue screens during start-up, etc. There are some, but very few success stories. This update "addresses a potential vulnerability when a password is required upon waking from the Screen Effects feature, which could allow an unauthorized user access to the desktop of the logged in user."

Update: Several users here have noted their success with the update. It is recommended that you run fsck (read more) and repair privilages after updating. MacFixIt has posted an article on the issue.

Our friends over at MacMinute noted that Buy.com is about ready to take the wraps off their own version of the iTMS. It's going to focus on Windows users and have a $40 million advertising campaign to hopefully gain users before the Windows version of iTunes makes it to market. Also noted in the article is that Buy.com has not locked in with all 5 record companies yet.

What we'd like to know is why Buy.com? Sure they are a popular website, but they've never done software. They have never done micro-payments. Seems like a risky plan (especially with the $40 million advertising campaign). Let us know what you think.
