The trip home deserves a post all its own. We left Shelton at about 5 PM and headed towared I-5. In Olympia we encountered a monsterous traffic backup. After 1 hour we advanced to Lacey where we wisely got off the Interstate and had a bathroom stop. After about a 15 minute break we jumped back in the car and got back on the Interstate in the same spot we got off, just an off and on ramp further down the road. I changed the radio to 550AM and listened to the traffic alert. Five miles down the road, there was an accident. So we crept along for another hour and when we got to the accident site, there was no indication that anything had happened. What was normally an hour and one half drive turned out to be a trip of three and a half hours.
I had read Dan Gilmore's article on IT Transportation and this morning I sent the link to the WSDOT transportation commission.

We were too tired to speak Sunday evening. A great day with my family in Shelton. We welcomed John-Henry home from his first year at University of Chicago, with a WiFi access point. He did say that the school is full of very smart students. There are about 7000 undergraduates and 9000 graduate students. Most all of them are waaay above average. My nearly 84 year old dad and his wife were there. He was complaining that he could not drive after dark until he has cataracts removed. They drive down to Arizona in the winter. My brother and his wife also have a daughter who is doing very good at Washington State University. She will be a senior next term and is looking forward to law school at the UW, after that.
