Maybe its time for Microsoft to provide an OS that is just for the majority of computer users who use IM, AIM, write a letter or as an Internet tool. Of all the people in our office, 27 civil engineers, there are only 3 who use their home computer for something else. I took a pole.
If this were an option, Microsoft may be able to offer a secure OS that would serve the purpose of most all computer users. That way the "worms" may be limited to businesses that have a limited IT organization like most states.
We have been robooting our machines for three days now and today all of the printer paths were erased. How much does it cost for an hour of "computer coordinator's" (a person who spends about an hour per month learning about Win2K, Hah!) time at $30.00 per hour for 300 offices to restore printer paths? Say $9,000. We have to reboot Monday for another patch which should have been done in July.
