Aggregators Attack Info Overload. Internet news addicts are turning in droves to so-called aggregator services, which relieve information overload by condensing multiple sites into a single feed. By Ryan Singel. [Wired News]
I consider Radio Userland my aggregator. I've had trouble getting it shared over the internet through my DSL provider. Up until a month ago I was getting the same IP number every time I rebooted. Then one day poof, I changed the "DHCP ID" by typing in my MAC address, and I got a new number and it's never gone back. I think I screwed up having a static IP adddress.

Software Spots Devilish Details. A new computer-aided change detection system allows doctors to see subtle variations that can help with life-and-death diagnoses. Applying the technology to other types of images could help track terrorists or monitor environmental changes. By Michelle Delio. [Wired News]
This is a great article on software that allows optical comparisons between images. I seen the technique used in astronomy to find comets or "variable stars" back in the days before we knew those stars were really galaxies. It appears that the computers allow us to make evolutionary steps in something we've been doing for over a hundred years!

For Those Needing 32 More Bits. The arrival of Apple's Power Mac G5 computers in stores is a sign the 64-bit microprocessor is ready to surpass the 32-bit norm. By John Markoff. [New York Times: Technology]
I have to say the move to 64 bits and improvement of other technologies like Xwindows on OS X are making the platform more useful all the time. I just tried Xwindows tonight and it worked great administering a Sun box. 100% compatible, no problems.

Toast 6 Titanium hits stores in Sept.. Roxio Inc.Toast 6 Titanium now supports all audio and video formats recognized by QuickTime, and can burn Video CDs, Super VCDs and DVDs all equipped with menus, buttons and chapters that can be played back on a home DVD player or on other computers. The interface has been reworked, as well. [MacCentral]
Honestly, I think Video CDs, Super VCD should be included somewhere within the OS either as part of QuickTime or iMovie or even Final Cut. I cannot tell you how many DVD's I've burned that 10minute long works on them, just so I could share them with friends. And why can't you burn data DVD's on OS X 10.2.6? A disk image is not the same as a backup, so Apple cannot claim they are doing it, But thank goodness toast is there to take up the slack.
