Other News: Mail Certificates. Joar Wingfors offers a tutorial on using digital certificates with Mac OS X Mail. [MacInTouch]

I think I should send this to Phil to indicate PGP is NOT the last word on encrypting email. If you have to pay for something why not just get a multipurpose cert, that can be shared across a wide range of apps? The cert I have is shared across all of my Office apps. including Internet Explorer. I can reuse it for encrypt PDF files in Adobe, it's X.509 is a really widely supported format, that while it may not be free, comes close to being a standard. It's useful right now, and is widely available.

Cheapskate's Guide to a Safe PC. If you're concerned about the health of your computer, there are plenty of free ways to keep the bad guys at bay. By Michelle Delio. [Wired News]

This is a great all around guide for what you can download for free to secure your computer. Zone Alarm is highly regarded, which makes me feel pretty good about choosing it. SpamBayes was originally covered by this same author some months ago and it still is doing a good job. And SpyBot is doing a good job too. It's just that added measure of protection that makes me feel like I'm doing a good job.

Sun to boost partitioning in Solaris 10. Sun Microsystems Inc. outlined planned improvements for Version 10 of its Solaris operating system on Tuesday, part of its quarterly update of new hardware and software products. [InfoWorld: Top News]

The Solaris OS just gets better and better. I cannot wait until we have Solaris 10 available at work on our giant F15K. How soon that will happen is up for debate. Our sysadmins almost never upgrade the OS beyond what it shipped with. I wanted to run Solaris 8 on our first server, but could never convince anybody to do it. Sean was such a stick in the mud I never purused it. I know we are running Solaris 9 on some of the partitions in the F15K, so the hardware is up to the task. I think the virtual partitions would be a boon for us on the Troi/Courses partition.
