Comcast Buys TechTV. The rumors turn out to be true, as the cable TV monolith concludes a deal to acquire the struggling technology TV company for a reported $300 million. By Daniel Terdiman. [Wired News]
I remember when I first stumbled across TechTV at my parents house all the way up in the channel 70 region. It was really fuzzy and it was analog cable so it didn't look great, but it was great fun watching Leo LePorte answer questions, and when Patrick Norton joined him, they had a technological "Man Show" of sorts (not as racy or blue of course). I wondered after March 2000 how long they would hold on in San Francisco as the Tech bubble burst. But they still are on the air, selling advertising, putting new programming up. I wish them the best, and hope that any combo with G4 is skewed heavily towards the TechTV philosophy and line-up. I hope ScreenSavers never goes away and lives on and on.
