Hitachi toughens up its laptop drives. The company's new 40GB drive for notebook computers promises greater reliability and ruggedness at an increasingly popular size. [CNET News.com]
Who knew 40GB was the sweet spot for 2.5" drives? But kudos all the same to Hitachi for doubling up on the resiliency of that product. No doubt more than a few manufacturers of non-PC applications will benefit from this work. Meaning people like Zaxcom (who makes multitrack digital audio recorders) and Shining Technologies (who make a direct to Disk DV recording device). Reliability will make the non-PC manufacturers all the more sought after for their rock solid products. Things just get better and better.
