Onion Taken Seriously, Film at 11. People continue to mistake The Onion's stories as real news -- partly because the stories are so deadpan, partly because people are desperate to validate their twisted beliefs. Whatever the reason, the folks at The Onion just laugh and laugh. By Daniel Terdiman. [Wired News]
I'm surprised Paul Wolfowitz or Don Rumsfeld haven't fallen prey to the siren song of the Onion. No doubt that had they started earlier spoofing of the government's favorite whipping boy, Saddam Hussein, they would have found someone cribbed their intelligence reports from the Onion. As it turned out someone merely cribbed off of some 12 year old Doctoral Thesis posted on the Internet, but you can see the pattern developing here. It's no surprise Debra Norville got duped, she was barely ever a journalist to begin with even back in the days when she was on primtime Television broadcasts on NBC. Can anyone say Willow Bay?
