Clueless user: ditch the victim mentality. Opinion Get with the security programme By Tim Mullen . [The Register]
I posted this to a Mail Listserv at work to get the point across that end users are culpable in the fight against incursions into their desktop computers. I am sure that a Walt Mossberg thinks he's really speaking for the unwashed masses when he blames the technology and the implementers of it for all the problems with security break-ins. The Register has proven that the average office worker would give away his/her password for a bar of chocolate. They just don't care, they figure it's not my problem, I don't maintain the machine,... It's not my responsibility. If everyone feels a little repsonsible across the enterprise, prevention will increase, and certainly where things go wrong remediation will be much quicker and much fuller in scope.
