Macworld Review: Peak 4.1 [MacCentral]

I've never found Peak to be useful for anything other than recording or editing sound clips that I've imported from other applications. It's just not very responsive when trying to work on Sound files embedded within QuickTime movies. And it's not the most intuitive piece of software when it comes to recording or doing small cuts and fade out envelopes. Even though it's bundled with Final Cut Pro as Peak DV, it still ain't that useful. And Final Cut is starting to develop some of its own sound editing capaibilities. ProTools is still king of the hill for this kind of mix workflow, Video & Sound combo.

Security and 64 bits coming to Intel's Prescott in June. Prescott supports the NX (no execute) feature designed to prevent worms and viruses from executing dangerous code through the exploitation of buffer overflows, Intel said. [Computerworld News]

Is it possible? In one year could buffer overflows in Windows be a thing of the past? What will virus and worm writers do now that their one BIG hole has now been eliminated? Only time will tell I'm sure. It will be interesting to see how seemly enabling all these protections will be. Unfortunately as a laptop PC user, I won't see these benefits until the next time I upgrade. Hopefully Intel will extend these chipset benefits to the laptop Pentium M series as quick as it can.

Signs of Crater Linked to Mass Extinction Said Found [Scientific American]

This has a quote from Earth & Environmental Science Prof. Bob Poreda of UofR in it. Looks like another impact crater has been discovered like the one off the coast of Guatamala, but occuring much longer ago than 65million years. It willbe interesting to see how this pans out over the next few years or so. No doubt a few people will need to do their own analysis and some new core samples will probably be made straddling the area in question.
