Transmeta shows 1.6GHz Efficeon processor. TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Transmeta Corp. is showing working samples of the latest version of its Efficeon processor at the Computex trade show in Taipei this week. [InfoWorld: Top News]
I'm amazed Transmeta made the transition to the next big thing in process shrink technology on silicon. They are hanging in there. And now just by coincidence their clock speed is getting closer and closer to Intel's own top of the line Mobile CPU's. Interesting isn't it? Intel poo-poo'd the whole idea of having a competing cpu technology and ran a crash program for the low voltage and ultra-low voltage Pentiums, Pentium II and Pentium III. They're still trying to tout its advantages over the slower code-morphing inherent in the Transmeta architecture. However, I just hope somebody sees this as another salvo fired at Intel's monopoly in the CPU market. I want Infoworld to run a benchmark of laptops running the latest 855G chipset laptops or Dothan based laptops against this 1.6Ghz Transmeta CPU and see how much the lead has eroded for Intel.

Microsoft granted 'double-click' patent. Microsoft has been granted a patent for double clicking and for different functions based on the tim... [MacNN | The Macintosh News Network]
Next Microsoft will patent or trademark the word "dark". Whenever the sun goes down, and all the lights go off, we will have to now refer to it as dark(tm). Or better yet, we will say, "Hey honey, it's Microsoft Dark(tm) outside. Maybe we should move the trashcans back from the curb?!" I can't wait to see who becomes the first legal victim of this idiotic mistake by the U.S. Patent Office. How much did Bill Gates have to give to the Bush re-election campaign to get this thing through the review process?
