IBM gets small in a big way. IBM's PC desktop division continues to think small in a big way announcing on Wednesday, a desktop system that is 35 percent smaller than its predecessor with a footprint that takes up less space than some of its laptop machines. [InfoWorld: Top News]
It's nice to see when a small unit comes out. I remember Dell started making small units available for a while. They fell out of favor, then suddenly out of nowhere, Shuttle starting making wicked cool small cases for people who built their own PC's. It came at a critical time where impromptu LAN games were forcing people to move their PC's temporarily to a friend's apartment for a whole evening and night of Counter-Strike. I think it's an idea whose time has come. There's no reason to make things in 20" and 22" towers like you used to see at all the Computer Show and Sales in the '80's and '90's.
