Sun delivers Unix shocker with DTrace. Analysis It slices, it dices, it spins, it whirls [The Register]
This is by far the best description yet of the possible impact the imminent release of DTrace will have in the Solaris world. Up to now there's been a lot of talk and hand-waving. I think finally with these anecdotal evidences, one can conclude DTrace is more than a debugging tool, more than an optimizing tool, but a real system level problem solving tool for SysAdmins and Programmers both. I cannot wait to see how Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAS, and all the other big iron Unix app programmers react to its release. I hope they grok it well enough to get rid of a large number of nagging performance issues with thier products.

Cisco to acquire Parc for improved traffic routing. Cisco Systems Inc. has agreed to acquire London-based traffic engineering and routing software provider Parc Technologies Ltd. in an effort to gain better traffic management in its systems and products, the company said Thursday.
Good 'ole Cisco Systems, they're taking over companies again. Albeit they are small companies, but they're on the same track they were before the Internet Bubble Land-rush popped. This is a sure sign things are getting back to some kind of economic and capitalistic normalcy. Where is Calvin Coolidge when you need him?
