ö Will we be second-class citizens?
And then, finally, I think all this is leading to an integration program in which ultimately these hybrids, who look very human, will be integrating into this society. And who will eventually, I assume, be in control here because they do have superior technology and superior physiological abilities that we do not have. We would therefore be sort of second-class citizens, I think.
Now, I find this to be very disturbing. And the interesting thing is that I don't really see other scenarios. I know that people feel it's positive and it's wonderful, and all the rest of that. more permanent link #

ö Ten Bloggers For Dinner
This is my attempt to start one of those blogging memes, so please listen up...
The goal of this exercise is to identify nine other bloggers that you would like to meet for dinner/drinks. The only caveat is that these bloggers must be strangers -- you haven't met them before. State the blogger's name, a link to the blog, and why you would like him/her to be in attendance.
My list (in alphabetical order by blog name)
more J-Walk
And, my list (in NO particular order)... and these are INDIVIDUAL bloggers, not some favorite GROUP blogs/publishers like Alternet, Common Dreams, Boing Boing, Metafilter, etc... Limiting it to 9 extras was tough. There are so many more. And hey, John, we agree on The Presurfer, but screw it, I'm not going to say why. You may have the time, but I don't. Find out yourself:
Presurfer
Pickover
Rageboy
Dr. Menlo
Kurt Nimmo
Mac Tonnies
Xymphora
Atomjack
and oh yah, J-Walk

ö The Quagmire Parable [Common Dreams]
Everybody on our block agreed that the people living next door to me were a threat to the neighborhood. It was common knowledge that Mr. X was a tyrant in his own house; consequently, his two teenaged boys were menaces. They sped recklessly around our streets in their EuroRacers, blasting loud music from their boomboxes at all hours. When they were younger I once saw one of them carrying a switchblade, and a few years ago they shot a hole in my mailbox with a pellet gun. I called the cops on them for that, but the cops did nothing.
Strange cars pulled in and out of their driveway in the middle of the night, and the homeowner on the other side told the neighborhood association that Mr. X was dealing drugs. Furthermore, that neighbor's uncle, Sam, claimed to have direct knowledge of a cache of weapons that Mr. X and his family owned. The authorities had been notified, and the rumor was that inspectors had infiltrated the residence in various guises -- a cable TV guy, a septic tank truck driver, a telephone repair woman -- but no weapons were ever found. We knew they had them, though, just because of the type of people they were.
Something had to be done. more permanent link #

ö Coming Soon: Thoughtscreen hat video of aliens
I just got a Comment on a post from October 10, 2003, Thought Screen hats to prevent alien abduction. The inventor, Michael Menkin, has this to say:
Please include the last sentence and try to comprehend the significance of it: Videos of aliens in Lassen County, California taken by a woman wearing a thought screen helmet will be distributed this year. You might be interested in my other website, aliensandchildren.org For more information on alien abductions, see ufoabduction.com and read The Threat by David Jacobs, Ph.D. Michael Menkin, Inventor
Fair enough, Michael, here it is: Videos of aliens in Lassen County, California made by a woman wearing a thought screen helmet or thought screen baseball cap 24 hours a day, every day, for over six months, will be available this year, 2005.
more
I'll look forward to the video. Will it be free, on the web?permanent link #

ö Barbara Boxer thanks the blogosphere [Daily Kos]
I can't thank all of you enough -- the Daily Kos community, and the blogosphere as a whole -- for all of your effective work during the recent debate over Condoleezza Rice's nomination. Your support and participation in this critical debate meant so much to me.
More than 94,000 Americans from across the country signed my petition and stood together to demand the truth from Condoleezza Rice. It was truly an overwhelming response -- much more than I could have anticipated. You helped to get our message out to millions of Americans -- I couldn't have done it without you.
And you made a difference. You gave me the voice I needed to ask the tough questions during Dr. Rice's confirmation hearings. And you gave the entire United States Senate the voice it needed to take its "advice and consent" responsibility seriously. In fact, Condoleezza Rice received 13 votes against her confirmation -- the most votes against any Secretary of State's nomination since 1825.
Two weeks ago, who would have thought that Condoleezza Rice's nomination would allow us to have a full debate about our policy in Iraq? Who would have thought that we'd have the chance to truly expose all of the misstatements and misjudgments that led us into that conflict and continue to plague this Administration to this very day?
The Republican Senate leadership intended to easily approve Dr. Rice's nomination in a routine voice vote last Thursday afternoon, after President Bush's Inauguration and before the Inaugural balls got into full swing.
But you didn't let them ram this nomination through the Senate. more
