And Beagle a little like Matty Mathieson(sp?), the proprietor of the SFA movie theater on North Street by the campus. The SFA movie theater a wild and trippy place but when you're a kid you don't know; I mean don't all movie theaters have the Time- Life pictorial pull-out of the Evolution of Life framed in the lobby for thirty years? Matty a little bit like my Granny in his adoption of a campaign of living characterised mostly by obstinance and isolation, though how might it have seemed when he was a young basketball star and newlywed? (But Beagle I think will be nothing like Granny.) In the back of the theater in a recess of the exit there was a two seat rocker with an ashtray. Matty and his wife sit there some. Me and my wife will sit there some the first year we're married. That's an exit I never remember using as a kid and it occurs to me that when I was a kid that was the exit reserved for coloreds. Just this morning I realized that. I see Chariots of Fire in that movie theater and I turn to Dr. F. E. Abernathy, after the rousing Jerusalem ending (he sitting by pure happenstance to my right), "well that sure makes you feel like killing Argentinians don't it?" He didn't laugh.
