chalk lettering: empire of dr. bienke. chapter #17. p.g. wodehouse version.. take 67.

we see: the interior of the barroom of the london gentleman's club the boboleum. all the surfaces of the boboleum barroom manage to represent, through one medium or another, the naked female form - the naked female form as popular in the 1890s, which was when the boboleum was seeing better days. except that the surfaces are largely obscured by insects pinned, in boxes and out, to the wall. in the twenties the young drinkers at the boboleum rather went off girls and became fervent naturalists. (on inspection one might discover that amongst the exotics shipped by black sheeps from around the empire more than one of the specimens is a roach in the wrong place at the wrong time).

and the twenties are better than now (1933) when we collect nothing we simply drink and that you can't afford to do zestfully at all muses george alden-alden nursing a half pint of worst bitter.

enter the honorable robert 'booby' dylan- de zimmer.

APPLAUSE. riotous applause. snorts and yelps of happy catharsis like those that greet the fonz or physically challenged nerdy black children.

booby (he's about twenty two, down from oxford, dressed in imitation of movie gangsters except that english taylors cut everything too tight. his skin white and pink like a choirboy. his voice reedy and suggesting a range of experience only half feigned. oh so bad and mad and dangerous.)

"the weather is frightful...." booby says. he seats himself at george's table while he considers these words. it has been noted that booby has mastered the ability of listening to himself.

"the weather is frightful. the men are frightful. smelly. the girls are simply disgusting. england is a disaster and england is the very best of europe. if it is not all up with western culture, as mr. spengler suggests, it is certainly to america we must turn our attention.

"bunny is on his way to hollywood. justine too, the harlot bitch," (justine is booby's sister.) "first they're going to see stewart and photograph cave paintings. they're going to be in texas where there are cowboys and buffalos and wild west shows. if i had been a girl i could marry a man who would take me places. i shouldn't care at all if he only had one leg."
