Xserves power iTunes Music Store, 'America 24/7'. The Xserve and Xserve RAID power the iTunes Music Store. It comes as no great surprise that Apple would use its own technology to power the iTunes Music Store, but the fact you haven't heard about it already is a great sign for Apple. It was difficult to buy a song on the first day of business for the iTunes Music store, but since then it has been easy to connect, navigate, purchase and download songs and art from the store. If the store had crashed and burned in the first week, you would have heard long before now that Apple technology powered the company's ill-fated attempt at Music downloads. [MacCentral]
A good example for showing Xserves in a high volume environment.

New NetBuild project uses Apple's Rendezvous. Distributed Experts' new product, NetBuild, uses Apple's Rendezvous technology to reduce compilation time on large-scale projects by spreading the work across Mac OS X machines on a network. It works with systems running Mac OS X 10.2 ("Jaguar") and higher with Apple's December 2002 Developer Tools installed. [MacCentral]

The MIT Haystack project released some preliminary code. If RDF is a grand unified theory of information, Haystack is the universal RDF browser. The Eclipse-like UI eschews dialog boxes for an array of panes; this cleverly eliminaties modality. It's also surprisingly polished for an academic research project. Potential hackers beware; I suspect much of the code is written in Adenine, the secret love-child of Python and RDF. [Hack the Planet]

News.Com: Microsoft to abandon standalone IE. This means that to get a new version of the browser you'll have to install a new version of the operating system? Also, what about the Mac version of IE? Again, Web developers never asked to be Microsoft developers, now they think we should be Windows developers. Oy. [Scripting News]
