Xbox to Switch to PowerPC. The chip that powers the Macintosh will soon be in Microsoft's gaming console. That's good news for IBM and a bad sign for Intel. By Leander Kahney. [Wired News]
The computer industry has more plot twists than a soap opera. Actually, this is pretty cool in that it pushes the PowerPC (which is a nice architecture) more into the main stream and gives Apple some validation of their technology roadmap. This, combined with things like the Virginia Tech G5 supercomputer, will hopefully help drive further advances of the PowerPC. As the article states, IBM will be supplying the CPUs for three gaming platforms: Xbox (PowerPC), Playstation (the Cell), and GameCube (PowerPC).
