TIME: No talent required with GarageBand. "Music, as any teen in a garage band will tell you, should be as simple to make as it is to listen to... [MacMinute.com: Up-to-the-minute Mac news -- around the clock, around the world.]
I installed the new iLife '04 last night and spent just a few minutes playing with GarageBand. I haven't seriously played a musical instrument in about 25 years, but this app sparked my interest. The options available for selecting an instrument and customizing it with dozens of effects is really amazing. I should probably buy a cheap MIDI keyboard and get my kids started playing around with the program.

The Amazing Properties of Aerogel
RideMax writes "We all know NASA is using a substance called 'aerogel' in the Stardust spacecraft to catch pieces of the Wild-2 comet. The NYT is running an article about some other amazing aerogel properties. My favorite quote: 'It's the lowest density of any solid, and it has the highest thermoinsulation properties. Though it would be very expensive, you could take a two- or three-bedroom house, insulate it with aerogel, and you could heat the house with a candle. But eventually the house would become too hot.'" We've looked at Aerogel before. [Slashdot]
NASA has some interesting pictures.
