Capsule Movie Reviews Update Recent Theatrical Releases BLUE CAR - An admirable effort from first-time feature writer/director Karen Moncrieff. The film kicks off to a spellbinding start but sadly self-destructs at the midway point and degenerates into a mishmash of melodrama and tiresome cliches. Actor David Strathairn proves once again why he is one of the most valuable actors working today, but it's young newcomer Anges Bruckner who shines brightest in her heartbreakingly honest portrayal of an adolescent in transition. Info DOWN WITH LOVE - Despite lively performances by Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, the film falls victim to a convoluted and phony plot that all the nostalgia in the world can't save. Info X2: X-MEN UNITED - Much like the first installment, I found this sequel to be lifeless and unimaginative. A shame, considering the potential of the characters and the film's premise. Info DVD Reviews EQUILIBRIUM (2002) - Doesn't work as an Orwellian cautionary tale. Doesn't work as a slick operatic actioner. Probably doesn't even work well as an overpriced coaster. Avoid. Info Legend - RECOMMEND CONSIDER PASS 3:39:54 AM comment [] |
