Personal Entry "Just what the heck is a shallot anyway?" I did a rare thing this weekend. I cooked. It's not often that you'll find me toiling away in the kitchen, mainly because I live alone and it's too much of an effort to go to on my part just to feed a mouth of one. But yesterday my sister happened to be home from Riverside so I thought it'd be a good opportunity to practice my limited culinary skills. I decided to do something relatively elaborate (at least for me, anyway). I pulled up this recipie for Filet Mignon with Mushroom-Wine Sauce from AllRecipies.com. I had made it once before, a long time ago, and recalled liking it a lot. The ingredients didn't come cheap (the filet mignon is, after all, the most expensive cut of beef out there) but screw it, I said. How often do I get to do this? Not very. I actually quite enjoy cooking. Much like writing, or photography, you're creating a product and developing a skill. It's a good way to spend an uneventful Saturday evening, more productive than vegging in front of the TV gulping down Chicken McNuggets, as I'm prone to do. Anyway, the steaks turned out wonderfully, if I do say so myself. I served them with boiled asparagus spears and French bread. I feel so good about the whole experience, I might even be tempted to do it again next weekend. 7:55:18 PM comment [] |
