Personal Entry "That Moment" ...and all of a sudden the world comes into focus just as the boundaries of reality begin to blur. The air thickens, your chest tightens, the distance between your foot and the ground seems to increase with every new step you take. You go back to your usual business and pretend nothing is different. But just below the surface it's there -- the gentle ascensions, the sharp declines, the gradual transformation from a constant dull ache to something at once old and new. A quiet awakening, a silent calling, an uneasy feeling. The motions of a heart gone aflutter. And maybe later that night when you're home with your headphones on, listening to the same songs you've been playing for countless nights in a row, the notes sound just a tiny bit sweeter. You open your eyes and the colors around you look just a tiny bit brighter. Knowing that no-one watches you, you dance a little, sing a little, make every moment count a little more. You dust off that old childhood photo album and search the past for clues about the future. You pause by the mirror and discover a new face gazing back at you. A face different from the one you usually know in only one detail: This one is smiling. As you lay your head down on your pillow for the night a final meme finds its way into your thoughts. You hope against hope that this feeling will still be there in the morning. Sadly, you already know it won't. Its fleeting nature is precisely why it is constantly sought, never conquered, always cherished. 4:47:06 AM comment [] |
