Newsweek's latest poll shows Americans are waking to the President's failures. Zogby latest poll confirms this trend. The Zogby poll shows Bush's elect ability today is dead even with that of any Democrat. Newsweek's poll shows 69% of Americans fear getting bogged down in Iraq for years to come without achieving stated goals. The Newsweek article also reports:

Two-Thirds Oppose Current Spending Levels; 72 Percent Concerned Cost Will Increase Deficit, Hurt Economy Forty-eight percent would support a withdrawal of U.S. Forces from Iraq in response to attacks on military personnel and other targets
The coffin for Bush's reelection bid however, lies in the following Newsweek quote:
Americans are also concerned about the economic cost of rebuilding Iraq; 66 percent say they do not support the current amount being spent, the poll shows.
What is so damning in this quote is the fact that it leaves President Bush no way out. On the one hand, if he pursues security and nation building in Iraq (his latest and last defense for invading) at the rate of $52 billion a year, the American people, now very concerned about deficits and debt, will justify a new President. On the other hand, if Bush vacates his position on rebuilding Iraq with a functioning democracy, he will have lost all faith and credibility in the eyes of other nations in the world and will cease to be regarded as a leader, rendering a second term, ineffective in cooperative international foreign affairs. Unilateral foreign affairs actions would only deepen the deficits and debt and such a course would spell doom for the Republicans as managers of the economy.
