Introducing new characters

Two weeks into blogging, and I am already sick and tired of exclusively contemplating the metaphysics of my own belly button.  It’s time to introduce some other characters, and populate these pages with their stories.

The names you will see here do not belong to any real person that I know.  Each name belongs to a fictional character which I created, sometimes more or less inspired by an actual person whom I know.  Since I am not really trying to piss off all my friends and acquaintances—past, present, and future, (even though I may very well succeed even without trying) I am taking some precautionary measures.

I am contacting everybody who I am able to locate, tell them what I am up to, and ask for permission to base a fictional character on their persona.  If they agree (which so far everybody did) I ask them to choose a name for this fictional character.  To this first name chosen by them I add a last name referring to the context of my relationship with them.

Today I wanted to start by introducing three of my chess friends, Henry Chess, Oliver Chess and Tolga Chess.

Unfortunately this will have to wait because I spent too much time today fighting my blog’s software.  I am looking now into a win-win situation.  I am testing software written by a company whose founder is supposed to be this great expert in software usability and human interfaces.  If this is all so, and the software does what they say it does, I’ll be very happy.  However if it’s the same old vaporware story of over-promising and under-delivering I am keeping another wining strategy up my sleeve.

The founder of this company is a very famous (or infamous, depending on where you sit) loudmouth on the internet.  I am sure he will be a worthy opponent for my polemical talents.  In order to give a punch you have to be able to take one.  In this case I will be happy as well, because all I really want to do is write anyway.

The first thing to know about us chess bums is that we all belong to a fifteen-hundred year old international tribe operating under the motto, “Gens una sumus”.

After hearing me out Oliver said that I should not forget to introduce myself as a character too.  I told him that I am already the narrator here, but he insisted that I should also be a character.  Alright then.  My name is Muta Ceva and you’ll find out more than you ever wanted to know about me, if you stick around.

This is all for now.  Tomorrow will be a new (software) day.
