Wi-LAN and Adino Telecom of India Announce Deployment of VIP Wireless Products

Adino Purchases Wi-LAN's VINE Based Products for State-Wide Network in India

Wi-LAN Inc., a global provider of broadband wireless communications products and technologies, and Adino Telecom Limited (Adino), India's premier broadband solutions company, today announced Wi-LAN's VINE based VIP 110-24 fixed wireless access products and accessories will be deployed in the Gujarat State Wide Area Network (GSWAN). GSWAN, which has been operational for two years, will be expanded using the VIP 110-24 products to provide voice, video and data services for many additional offices and departments of the State Government. Adino's initial purchase order is currently being filled and Adino expects to order approximately $350,000 (US$225,000) of Wi-LAN's VIP 110-24 products over the next 12 months. Additional sales of Wi-LAN products are expected to follow as GSWAN moves into further phases of its network buildout.

"After extensive field trials and demonstrations, we chose Wi-LAN's VIP 110-24 products because of their ease of installation, robustness, reliability and VINE technology," said Mr. R.K. Dave, Engineer-In-Charge of the Project, IT Department, Government of Gujarat. "The VIP 110-24 units will allow us to provide voice services to many of our offices and departments and avoid leased line costs. In addition, we will be able to provide previously unavailable video and high speed data services."

"We won this contract through a competitive tender when the State Government realized that Wi- LAN's turnkey wireless network solution and very reliable, high-performance VIP 110-24 product series would meet their wireless data, voice and video requirements," said Mr. S. Ramchandra of Adino Telecom. "Initially we will connect government offices within five kilometers of the State's district offices, and we expect to see further sales as we expand to offices beyond five kilometers."

  • KT Corp Trialing Navinis' Wide-Area Wireless Broadband System in Korea
  •

KT Corp, formerly known as Korea Telecom, the world's largest broadband service provider, has announced plans to trial 2.3 GHz systems from Navini Networks, the global leader in zero-install non-line-of- sight (NLOS) wide-area wireless broadband technology. This field trial uses spectrum defined by the Korean government as high-speed wireless Internet service called PI (Portable Internet). Both parties will collaborate to further refine the technical and market requirements for broadband mobility for today's competitive marketplace.

KT is trialing the next- generation of broadband products to offer their customers truly portable, untethered access, furthering their dominance in offering the most advanced technology available.

"Until recently, broadband users could only choose a wired solution, but now advanced technology from companies like Navini will ensure that KT can rapidly deploy wireless broadband data communications, and allow our customers full freedom of movement similar to that afforded by our cellular voice networks," said Mr. Park, Jung-Tae, vice president of KT Corp. "Navini's non- line-of-sight wireless broadband technology enabled by sophisticated smart antennas has the potential to extend and help differentiate our existing ADSL broadband services."
