Quiz: THE NERD? GEEK? OR DORK? TEST

Hey Geoff scooped me with a stupid quiz. Well done Mai Tai!

Other who have done the quiz include Matt Bourne & Clarke Scott (who has a similar result to mine)

Outcast Genius
56 % Nerd, 91% Geek, 56% Dork
For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in all three, earning you the title of: Outcast Genius.

Outcast geniuses usually are bright enough to understand what society wants of them, and they just don't care! They are highly intelligent and passionate about the things they know are *truly* important in the world. Typically, this does not include sports, cars or make-up, but it can on occassion (and if it does then they know more than all of their friends combined in that subject).

Outcast geniuses can be very lonely, due to their being outcast from most normal groups and too smart for the room among many other types of dorks and geeks, but they can also be the types to eventually rule the world, ala Bill Gates, the prototypical Outcast Genius.

Congratulations!

Photos from Ride on HarbourJet

I told you I would get photos online

Billy and I - before the ride. Notice we are NOT wet.

Happy Jetboat riders. Notice, Billy and I are sitting in the front. In retrospect, it was the best place to sit. The folks in the back got soaked!

Speeding in Sydney Harbour

Today I delivered on my gift to Billy - we went on our Sydney Harbour jetboat ride.

We had the Jet Blast Adventure, which is described as :

After venturing out of Darling Harbour, we unleash the full power of the jet at 75km/h, with a continual mix of 270-degree spins, wild fishtails and incredible power brake stops. Hold on tight as the fast pumping music keeps your heart beat racing.

Yup, that about sums it up.

The guy driving the boat (I'll call him the captain) came on board with a coffee and popped it in a holder. He was drinking it for most of the time.  He didn't spill a drop. Amazing.

Billy had a great time out on the harbour. There were a bunch of visitors to Sydney on the boat, including this Canadian girl. No one warned her about the ride and she really wasnt wearing the most sensible of clothes.  Well, you can imagine the results. She got really wet. Drenched infact. It was quite a sight. We had our own wet tshirt competition, and we were the judges. I'm sure the captain did it on purpose to amuse himself.

And yes, we got really wet too. Good thing I bought along a change of clothes for both Billy and myself. Once on dry land, we had a quick change and we're able to enjoy the sights at Darling Harbour.

I haven't had a chance to upload the official photos, but I will soon.

Getting Down to Healthy Business

My recovery from surgery has been progressing nicely. I saw my surgeon this week for my final check and he said that everything was going well. This is reassuring, as I wont need another minimally invasion examination for a while.

I've put on a bit of weight following my operation, following my dramatic weight loss earlier in the year,  so I need a routine to help get the weight off AND keep it off.

Solution -- I joined a local gym.

I met with the folks there and we worked out a plan. I will go swimming at the pool 2 times a week, and I will do a 90 minute work out in the gym for another 2 days a week, with a rest midweek, AND I will continue my 30 minutes a day walk, which I had been doing in the morning.

This is all part of my rehabiliation, as well as establishing some new habits and routines.  I've given myself a target to drop another 10kg in the next 4 months. I feel confident I can do this, without having to resort to The Hacker's Diet

Happy Birthday Antony - 14 Today

Today is the birthday of my eldest son - Antony. He turns 14 today. Gosh, seems like only yesterday I posted Happy Birthday to him.

Antony doesnt like having his photo taken, but I found this one that I took recently. I don't want to embarrass him, but it is a father's right to do so.

Like his brother Billy last week, Antony had a fruitful birthday - lots of cool presents, like a Nintendo DS, a Creative Zen Touch, lots of new CDs, including the re-release of War Of The Worlds, some books, some yummy things from sticky, and other assorted goodies.

Ahh, It's good to be 14!!

Who Listens to the Radio? I Do

A new radio station started in Sydney in the past few weeks. It's called Vega 95.3 from DMG Radio Australia (they guys behind Nova 96.9) and it is aimed at the 'Over 40' market with presenters such as Angela Catterns, Wendy Harmer, Francis Leach, Tony Squires & Rebecca Wilson. The new station has brought some controversy with it.

So, out of curiosity, I tuned in this afternoon and listened the the drive show with Tony & Rebecca. It was like an old episode of The Fat when it was still on the ABC. I liked it. The music was more oldies than I would have liked, but the banter was entertaining.

So, I have a new routine. In my morning commute I will continue to listen to Merrick and Rosso on Nova969 and for my evening commute I'm going to switch from Richard Glover on ABC 702 and start listening to Tony & Rebecca.

I bet you are wondering why I'm not listening to podcasts or cds in my car - well my commute is pretty short and it's the only time I get to hear any news during the day. I save all my podcasts and cds for longer trips, or for listening in the office when I'm at work.

Happy Birthday Billy - 12 Today

2004-01-20 063Today is my little Bill's birthday. He turns 12.

Actually he's not that little. He is taller than his mother and has feet like a hobbit.

Bill has a blog on MSN Spaces but he hasn't updated it for a while - maybe this will inspire him.

He scored well on his birthday - we got him a Zen Touch with a 20gb harddisk. It won't take too long to fill that up. I also got him all the INXS back catalog - he has become a big fan since watching Rockstar on Fox8. His brothers and sisters all got him some cool stuff too, but I hope he gets a chance to blog about it himself.

My big gift is coming soon - when he was younger, I promised him a ride on the JetBoat at Sydney Harbour. The youngest you can be is 12 so I told him when he turned 12, I would take him out on the boat. I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

Happy Birthday Billy!!!
