Add navigator links to a Radio category

Radio UserLand tip: When using a category to publish a separate weblog, create a #navigatorLinks.xml file in that category's subfolder in wwwcategories (or copy the one in the www folder).

By editing that file directly with a text editor, you can give the category its own navigator links.

Jenny Levine has written a tutorial on editing navigator links that shows what this file should contain. [Workbench]

Rendering PHP Files with Radio UserLand

A Workbench visitor asks: How can I use Radio to render .php files instead of .html files when upstreaming?

The file extension is determined by the #renderedFileExtension directive. By default, files are rendered with the .html extension.

To set the extension to .php for an entire folder and its subfolders, edit the #prefs.txt file in that folder and add this line:

#renderedFileExtension "php"

Here's an example: the xmas.txt file and the xmas.php page it produces.

To set the extension only for a specific file, add the same line at the top of the file along with any other directives. Leave a blank line after the directives and before the content of the page, but don't put blank lines between each directive. [Workbench]

TrackBack for Radio is released. Radio supports both inbound and outbound TrackBack pings. For outbound TrackBack, all you have to do is enable the feature, and Radio will do the rest. Inbound TrackBack works similarly to comments -- a TrackBack link next to each post opens a pop-up window which displays inbound pings. Performance boost for Manila servers. We just released a pair of changes for Manila, which improve performance when updating a Manila site's home page. Dave had found that pinging Weblogs.Com was taking a long time. The changes just released make Manila send the pings to Weblogs.Com in a separate thread instead of waiting for a response. Stapler 2.2.4 is available. Its new items counter is fixed. Also, thanks to Andy Fragen's installCodeFreshener tool, it includes Dave Winer's codeFreshener scripts: you should no longer have to download the new version to upgrade Stapler (that is, from 2.2.4 to the next version), but rather merely select "Refresh code from the web" from the Tools->Stapler menu in the Radio application. Radio UserLand: UserTalk, Radios Programmiersprache, besitzt nämlich schon die nützliche Funktion file.filesInFolder(folderPathname, depth), die die Zählung für mich übernimmt. Also rasch in die Indexseite eingebaut:

Und prompt steht dort:

Der lange Pfadname führt zu dem Ordner, in dem die Mails der Nigeria-Connection lokal auf meinem Rechner liegen, die Tiefe ist "1", da die Unterordner nur Bilder und ähnliches, aber keine Mails mehr enthalten und die "6" muß ich abziehen, weil sechs Dateien und Ordner Inhaltsverzeichnis, Startseite, Hilfsdateien etc. sind. So einfach ist das in Radio!

Hello, Stapler 2.2.1. Stapler 2.2.1 is out:

Feed descriptions are correctly written to disk. I'm not sure how I let them not be.
Feeds with no items no longer cause Stapler to write badly formed XML. I knew this was happening on and off but never connected it to having no items to write.
Added radioComments scanner to provide a feed informing you of new comments to your Radio weblog. No example feed, but the scanner doesn't take any options (it reads everything from Radio's settings) so I'm not sure how it could be easier to set up.
The blogHeadlines scanner ignores titles of "Untitled," abbreviating the item content instead. This is mainly for me, since I have untitled posts automatically given a title of "Untitled."
The beforeAndAfter scanner has an "Include Before and After strings" option, and scanner options shown in textareas are now properly escaped. I'm scanning a couple actual sites with beforeAndAfter now, so of course, fixes.
Using the "Subscribe" button only writes the feed to disk if the file didn't already exist.
Added StaplerSuite.tools.newItem (feed) script for use by scanner authors. I was tired of having to look up and copy the same code over and over to do that, so, refactoring. Yay.

In related news, eVectors RssDistiller is 1.0 now. There's probably a 2.5:1 ratio between Stapler's and RssDistiller's version numbers, or something. [Mark Paschal: Stapler]

Stapler 1.0 functional specification. For my own personal use, I'm looking at reimplementing Stapler in Python. If your interest in Stapler might include the functional specification I wrote as part of this process, you'd probably like to see it. Sorry for the lack of updates.
