Off to the Army football game with Madeleine today. Marna and Kieran get home from Florida tonight. Seems like ages since I last saw them.

Mounds of foliage had been piling up in the front and back yards over the past few weeks. I made an attempt to get rid of some of it by raking the leaves to the edge of the road, where the Village Highway Department was supposed to round them up with their Leafsucker 2000. Before that could happen, however, high winds blew through town yesterday, taking much of the foliage with them. Now the job, both front and back, should be much more manageable.

The less said about the election the better. I did my bit. I hate the Electoral College system. Neither candidate really bothered to campaign in New York, as it's a safe democratic state. Instead, the entire evening boiled down to Florida and Ohio. I could tell which way it was going by midnight and turned in early. Surely there must be a better way to elect a president. This mish-mash of voting systems across different states is nothing short of a disgrace. This month's Harvard Magazine has an interesting piece on electronic voting systems that the FEC should read ASAP.
