Fortune magazine's Peter Lewis provides another perspective on the President's call for "universal, affordable access" for broadband by 2007,  Bush's Bold Plan for Broadband (April 2, 2004). The article includes the relevant excerpt from Bush's campaign rally in Farmington, New Mexico. Lewis then considers the President's high-level plan from both aspects: Can we realistically get universal access across the country by 2007? Can we actually get affordable access by then? The answer, of course, depends on just what these terms mean.

To follow up on a recent blog posting,Here's an exerpt of the exerpt that includes a particularly squishy definition of broadband:

"You see, new ideas and new businesses and new ways to educate people in Farmington, New Mexico are going to occur when we're able to get information flowing across cables and telephone lines in a fast way. That's what broadband technology is. It means we'll open the highways of knowledge—new highways of knowledge. "
