The doo-doo gets deeper
The Washington Post reports that Stephen Hadley, President Bush's deputy national security adviser has stepped forward and taken the blame for the inclusion of the famous "16 words" about the bogus Iraq-Niger uranium connection. Hadley stated that prior to the President's October 7 speech in Cincinnati, Hadley recieved two memos as well as a phone call directly from CIA Director George Tenet objecting to the inclusion of the reference to the allegation that Iraq was trying to buy uranium from Niger. It just happens that he forgot all about the CIA objections when it came time for the state-of-the-union address in January. This American public will find this explanation very unconvincing. The White House is digging itself deeper into the doo-doo.
