The "skinny" on this blog's author
Okay, you may be asking, who is this person who is writing this blog? I have many roles . . . as a Strength & Beauty Six on the Enneagram (check out Peter O'Hanrahan's article on the subtypes), I've had several careers . . . but I'm a certified teacher of the Enneagram in the Palmer/Daniels EPTP program, work with other certified teachers in developing Enneagram programs in the Chicago area, am a member of the board of the Association of Enneagram Teachers in the Narrative Tradition, and I'm a consultant with a state agency in Illinois. A fair amount of formal education, as you might expect from a mental type . . . University of Chicago (graduate of The College), Dominican University master's degree (library and information science, as I wanted to know that I could find ANY FACT), lover of technology as a tool of communication and information-seeking, spiritual seeker, meditator, and all-around smart, nice woman.

Defense Mechanisms
Peter O'Hanrahan, Manager of the Enneagram Professional Training Program developed by Helen Palmer and David Daniels, M.D., has written a summary of the defense mechanisms for each of the nine Types. He has also developed a summary of the sub-types. Peter was my internship supervisor in the EPTP, so I'm quite familiar with his work and recommend it.

More Events
On Sunday, July 27, 1:30 - 5:00 p.m, Debbie Ooten of Cincinnati--my primary teaching colleague in Enneagram Connections who is a therapist in private practice--and I will present "The Enneagram Basic," a half-day workshop at Unity of Chicago, 1925 W. Thome Avenue (near Devon and Ridgeland), on Chicago's Far North Side. The workshop will feature a full introduction to all nine Enneagram types, with panels of speakers for the nine Types. Video clips further illustrating type, dyad exercises, and meditation practice will be featured. The workshop will help to answer the questions--"What type am I?" and "Now that I know my type, what do I do with it?"

The Enneagram
This weblog, begun on Friday, June 13, 2003, will be comprised of articles, news, and my observations on topics directly about or connected to the Enneagram. Conferences, workshops, web sites, book reviews, comments on films seen through this particular lens--it will appear here as I see fit to post. New posts will generally appear on a daily basis.
Upcoming Events
