Adventures of an InfoMage in Training

Monday, June 23, 2003

Yay! My UW network access info arrived today in the mail :-) I'm upgrading my XP laptop with Office XP (long story that) -- apparently, Outlook 2002 isn't super IMAP friendly but the online documentation should be enough to get me up and running. Once it's installed, that is.

Tomorrow I'm going to follow-up about the financial aid status -- I still haven't heard anything one way or the other and that would be a good thing to know!

I received my first major information packet from iSchool in the mail today :-) It has all kinds of interesting tidbits, not the least of which is that I must register and pay for one class (LIS 500 - The Life Cycle of Information) by July 25th -- apparently this class is technically part of their second summer term. I also get to provide a short bio that will be included in this year's cohort directory (distance students who are starting this year). I would love to create something really humorous but I'm just not a funny writer... well, I'll come up with something, I suppose! I will need to include a high-res digital photo as well though there are no other specs provided (er, how big do you want it??)

The best news (as far as I'm concerned!) is that their Engineering/iSchool Writing Center will be made available to writing help online. Yay! I've been a bit worried about my ability to write at a "graduate school" level (my GRE writing score sure wasn't all that high :P) and I plan on using this resource, alot!

I'm still awaiting on financial aid info as well as my student id which I'll need to get signed up on the iSchool network and take care of a number of other items before the on-campus orientation starts in August.

Still, it's nice to feel like things are moving along!

I couldn't have been happier when on May 15th I received my acceptance letter from the University of Washington's iSchool for their distance MLIS program. And now, with still two months to go, I can't wait for the on-site orientation in August!

I managed to stumble onto their chat server where the distance students were having their own version of the Spring Fling event being held on campus :) I was subsequently invited to join the Portland distance students at a get together at the Black Lab Brew Pub last night but I was way too tired by then.

Yup, waiting until August is going to be hard indeed!
