Time for a post-Christmas post. The weather so far this winter
has been mild enough to allow anglers to get out on the Lake Michigan
tribs for some mid-season steelheading. There are plenty of
steelies (fresh Chambers Creeks, for the most part) on the larger
rivers right now. If you fish close to bottom in the deep holes and
runs you should get into some fish. Here's an excerpt from a
story on a recent outing with Matt Panosh, who guides out of The Flyfishers in West Allis: On my third or fourth drift, I felt a solid take and reared back on a good fish... A shorter version of this story appeared in the Dec. 5 issue of Wisconsin Outdoor News.
If you go to that site, you'll have to search for it under
"archives." Try "steelhead" and search for that date.
You'll also find in on this blog under stories. Read it there or here, then let me know what you think. You can also find a great steelhead story by my friend Dave Richey on one of his blogs. Dave has two blogs: www.daverichey.com is his most active one. The other, www.davericheyoutdoors.com has the steelhead story. Look for his August feature for "The Day the Steelhead Went Wild."
That's all for now. Stay tuned for more...
