Hey, y'all. Dat Yooper game warden John Walker sent me another
great story under the guise of a "Fishing Report." Look for it
under "Stories." Just click that word over on the right and
you'll go right to it. --->
John's books, along with a bunch more books, will soon be for sale in
Dan's Mall on my main website. (Note to Webmaster Les: info
coming your way soon)
We taped our last new Outdoor Wisconsin
program for the season today. Look for it this week. (Thu. in
Wis., with repeats Sat. or Sun.; elsewhere, check local
listings.) One of the segments is a dove hunt we shot last
September with Rob Kieckhefer, president of the Wisconsin Dove Hunters Assoc.,
Jerry Solsrud, founder of the Wisconsin Waterfowl Assoc., and Steve
Williams of Wern Valley Sportsmen's Club, along with Steve's Uncle Dave
and Craig Leair. It was fun editing the segment to cut out all of
Uncle Dave's colorful remarks (That didn't leave him much to say!) when
the rest of us missed a bird, which happened with alarming regularity.
If you have never shot doves, you probably wonder what I'm talking
about. You southern boys know darn well what I mean.
Anyway, Wisconsin now has a dove season and we'll be taping another
hunt on Opening Day with a couple who shot over 200 birds in Wisconsin
last year. That's a lot of good eating!
BTW, speaking of eating, Steve whipped up a dandy dove-kabob shore
lunch for us, which I only wish you could taste. We're working on
smellovision so you can at least enjoy the aroma, but haven't perfected
that new technology yet.
BTW again. When reviewing this week's show tape this morning, I
happened to catch Martha Stewart going native on her show. I
thought it was an episode of "Survivor" for a minute! She was
taking a sea kayaking lesson apparently in the Northwest or Canada and
then grilling salmon in the field with some native people who shared
some traditional wisdom about loving Mother Earth. Martha
seconded their thoughts, but then I suspect she'd be happy to be
grilling anything anywhere right about now.
Later...
