You have to read John Walker's laterst "Fish Report." It's a
stirring but simple tale of family helping family in an
emergency. When you think all is lost, call family. This
family, at least, responds BIG TIME.

The fog was so thick you couldn't see a block when Jim Dillig, Fritz
Theinen and I launched my boat at about 9:30 this morning on the west
shore of Lake Winnebago. We hugged shoreline rocks for an hour,
casting jigs and crankbaits to no avail. When the fog began to
lift a bit, I overheard guys in two boats talking about seeing us at
the Citgo on the way up, so we motored out to them. They were
catching a few small perch, so we hung around an hour and I caught a
lone white bass.
We finally decided to go find some walleyes, but they were not on the
shallow reefs off Fahrney Point, or in Willow Bay or anywhere between
Fahrney and Black Wolf.
We ended the day at 3:30, licking our wounds and cutting our
losses. Our friends from the Citgo were still on the rock flats
off Little Point. Their total for the day? 15 perch and
hoping for a few more.
Despite it being Tuesday, and a gorgeous one at that, there were
dozens of boats plying the west shore. We heard someone caught a
walleye this morning, but never confirmed that rumor.
BTW, the lake and bays were devoid of ducks, too, so it looks pretty
bleak for the second opener on Saturday. Glad I'm heading back to
the Mississippi.
