My new friend, Bob White, is fast
becoming one of my favorite writers. He's already one of my
favorite artists. It seems so unfair that someone with so much
talent in one medium should be blessed with as much in another.
In an earlier day, I'd be envious. Now, I'm just glad I'm on his
Thursday Morning Art Review list.
"What's that,? you ask?
Well, hey, you know how to work this thing by now.
Just click on the link, but first, here's a taste of his latest piece,
called, simply, "Cold":
"There's a twisted and perverse pride
that people who live here take in enduring. People who live up here swim
in Lake Superior... for fun! they wet-wade in the Split Rock River... bowl
with frozen turkeys in the icy alleys of Thunder Bay... ice fishing on Lake
Superior with a canoe nearby because the ice is always breaking up. People
up here net the smelt run in the spring... and the DNR requires them to wear
blaze orange life jackets so that the bodies will be easier to find. People
in the north take their winter vacations even further north, up at their
cabins. We tell our friends from Minnesota, who've moved to Anchorage, that
they ran away from the cold."
Go read the rest of the story. It's a winner.
And then go check out "On the Road" over to the right-----> I'm in Chicago for the NW Chicago Sports Show.
Later...
