Michael moore on Arnold/Bush
Posted here Thursday, October 09, 2003 at 1:25:57 PM

From Michael Moore's mail list.

In the meantime, don't be depressed about Arnold. The people are pissed off and they have every right to be. They are in a "removal" mood. That is a good thing. As soon as we do our work to inform our friends and neighbors how Bush has wrecked the country, the economy and our standing in the world, they will be more than ready for "Terminator IV: Hasta La Vista Bush." And, please, let this be the end of wimpy, wishy-washy Democrats like Gray Davis who are really Republicans. The American public hates b.s. and hates fakes. We -- you -- need to think about getting people to run for office who STAND for something. Time is running out.

If Bush prevails..
Posted here Thursday, October 09, 2003 at 1:19:42 PM

The issue must be, what if he is correct, which may be the truth. From my view, what is left out is the shift in atmosphere towards violence and unilateralisms, and the actual dead and wounded among the Iraqis, which I believe is greater than would have been the case under continuing authoritatrian rule, bad as it would have been.. But we may need to live with Bush prevailing.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire, Oct. 9 -- President Bush told Americans today that the situation in Iraq is "a lot better than you probably think," as he sought to rally the flagging support for the U.S. occupation.

Do check this and see that AS won based on non coastal counties, almost all which voted against the recall and the SF bay counties for Bustamente.  It is the rural, coast split and needs much more thoughtfulness.

Mini essay Creative labor

Think of the implications of "creative labor" as it really is in service and software, for example, yet it does not count as capital or capital creating. This is a leverage point for rethinking money.

Putin is putting pressure on Bush, but the reality is that Bush also in fact licenses this thinking

Russia is opposed to the doctrine of using preemptive strikes to prevent attacks but reserves the right to resort to it if the practice should become widespread, President Vladimir Putin said Thursday at a Russo-German summit.

Review of The Naked Corporation

DON TAPSCOTT ON THE 'AGE OF TRANSPARENCY'

Review from In their new book "The Naked Corporation," technology gurus Don Tapscott and David Ticoll say that a new "age of transparency" will revolutionize business. (The book' has received the enthusiastic endorsement of industry leaders such as Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, who has called the book "brilliant," and Cisco chief CEO and President John Chambers, who says that the two authors "show how trust--powered by broad corporate transparency--isn't just about ethics, it is about success.") Tapscott and Ticoll write: "If the bursting of the Internet bubble and the scandals of

2002 have told us anything, it is that the days of opacity in business are over. Thanks to the Internet, whistleblowers, aggressive news media, customers, trading partners, shareholders, and community activists are gaining unprecedented access to information regarding corporate behavior, operations, and performancefrom financial data, employee grievances, and internal memos, to environmental disasters, product weaknesses, international protests, scandals and policies. Corporations are essentially becoming naked and 'if you¹re going to be naked, you¹d better be buff.'"

Return of power brightens Iraqis

This suggests that under current conditions, if a population has electricity they will be tractable.

For the first time since Baghdad fell April 9, the capital city and most of the country have enjoyed four straight days without a significant power outage.

"The power situation has not been this good since before the Kuwait war," says security guard Majid Abdul Reza, 27. Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990.
