On a different note, Arnold Schwartzenegger's election, is wrapped up with peoples' need for a superman, Terminator who will kill all the bad guys and save them from having to analyze their painful lives and cooperate as little folks to bring the oppressors down and take personal risks to do it. There is a strange juxtaposition between Kobe Bryant, a rich African American who sexually assaults one woman and is pilloried in the press and Schwartzenegger who assaults 15 women and admires Hitler and is elected governor of California. Kobe Bryant is not the superman of choice. The films, the Titanic, Jaws and many others illustrate American's unconscious awareness that their lives in the one nation to survive WW2 with an intact economy have changed. The two great empires following WW2 are going down. The USSR already imploded from its own corruption. The US is the only superpower of transcendent military capacity. However, in every other aspect of life, whether economy, or prestige, or life expectancy or national well being or average salaries, we have been superseded. Our time as the prime, privileged consumers of the worlds riches is limited. Now the Iraqi's are showing us what the Palestinians are showing Israel. There is no occupation that can succeed. When the other side are ready to sacrifice their lives, we have nothing left to threaten. Our confused young soldiers with only Hollywood visions of might or visions of military service as a means to go to school or survive in a down economy are no match for a motivated population ready to die on their own turf and among their own people. Life as we knew it in America since the end of WW2 is changing. We have to accept being part of the world as one rather than the one and only power or we will be destroyed. I think that Americans unconsciously know that their leaders are out of control in the selfish pursuit of power and plunder in the same way that they know that their parents were out of control in pursuit of their own agendas. Americans do not want to face the bad news and fight the entrenched, corruption. They want super magic parents to save them while they know that they will be destroyed.
