First hand reports from inside Iraq, for all the distortions of local perspective, are still fact of experience. This is worth reading. My view is that human experience is what life is about, and as a Japanese saying i heard put it, "one human life is worth more than the weight of the earth."

Standard political theory says we go from republic to democracy to oligarchy. Is this not what has already happened? The lust for democracy, bypassing republican forms for "representatie democracy",  my have rushed us way past where we wanted to be. Democracy requires

education

multiple forms of participation

and we have not developed either.
