I've been traveling for ten days, and took a new computer which i did not get able to post to the blog. Now back.  My overall impression from the ten days -  things are muddling through, the possibility of large scale events haunt the election, which otherwise looks more like a Kerry-Edwards win. Even the Senate might go democratic. But it is theater and special effects can have their say. The tendency of Bush to make a deal out of the wealth of the democrats is just part of the muddying we can expect, creating confusion and undermining emotional commitments.

I am beginning to think about the post Kerry win opportunities - and difficulties. new initiatives on

terrorism: less blast and more substance

economy: more interest in what creates new tech and its environmentally sound applications at local and regional levels

more multinational conferences and initiatives on large issues

rethinking education and child well being.

rethinking mortgage deductions past a certain limit

and being aware that economic retrenchment based on long term debt and economic competition is going to create powerful undertows..

And of course, what will be the management philosophy in  a Kerry Whitehouse? Clinton was to scattered, Bush is too hierarchical. In that flow, real education among senior staff,  and prioritizings, were not possible.

The opportunity for leadership will be very great, because we have no national vision that is inclusive. The bureaucratic left and the bully christians on the right have no real vision. And we hear that both conventions are going to talk about vision and values..
