Posted here Friday, October 15, 2004 at 8:39:50 AM     The reason the  Cheney episode is so powerful in the psyche is because it touches on the power of government to humilate the individual. No matter that the case doesn't fit well, the fact that there is such a reaction (stirred by Republican PR folks who need an issue desperately) tells us lots about the psyche and politics. Everyone does feel humiliated by the political scene, the economy, Iraq, Islam, Christianity, environment. It is all a more than bearable dose of humiliation. ********
