If Bush prevails..

The issue must be, what if he is correct, which may be the truth. From my view, what is left out is the shift in atmosphere towards violence and unilateralisms, and the actual dead and wounded among the Iraqis, which I believe is greater than would have been the case under continuing authoritatrian rule, bad as it would have been.. But we may need to live with Bush prevailing.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire, Oct. 9 -- President Bush told Americans today that the situation in Iraq is "a lot better than you probably think," as he sought to rally the flagging support for the U.S. occupation.

Do check this and see that AS won based on non coastal counties, almost all which voted against the recall and the SF bay counties for Bustamente.  It is the rural, coast split and needs much more thoughtfulness.

Russia could launch preventive strikes if practice spreads: Putin

Putin is putting pressure on Bush, but the reality is that Bush also in fact licenses this thinking

 

Russia is opposed to the doctrine of using preemptive strikes to prevent attacks but reserves the right to resort to it if the practice should become widespread, President Vladimir Putin said Thursday at a Russo-German summit.

Return of power brightens Iraqis

 This suggests that under current conditions, if a population has electricity they will be tractable.

For the first time since Baghdad fell April 9, the capital city and most of the country have enjoyed four straight days without a significant power outage.

"The power situation has not been this good since before the Kuwait war," says security guard Majid Abdul Reza, 27. Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990.
