I play Scrabble online from time-to-time and I've found a common false-security. If you can use all 7-letters you get a "bingo" and get an extra 50-points. 80%+ of the time that someone gets a bingo I'm able to beat them overall and I'm convinced it's because they become confident that the score boost will allow them to win. Interesting. It's even happened to me...that someone took over at the end when I got lazy 'cause I thought my win was inevitable.
