Urban Educ8r: A Wickerblog
This weblog is dedicated primarily to the discussion of Education issues and policies, as well as to chronicling the author's experiences as an inner-city school teacher. These days, the education discussion is too much in the hands of ignorant politicians merely doing what they need to gain re-election, and not enough in the hands of knowledgable professionals with first hand experience.

A firend of mine, to whom I sold a couple of those Braves tickets that I was unable to use with my class, reported to me that he saw large groups of school kids at that game. I wonder how my executive director would respond to hearing that. (I've actually decided to just let it go. As I've been told, if I did respond anymore to her, I would probably pay dearly for it. Sad isn't it. Well, I'll get my 'revenge' when I am executive director and let every kid under my supervision take an educational field trip to the ballgame.)

...There's actually a something to be learned in almost any subject area from baseball: history (it has played a major role in our nation at critical times like wars and the civil rights movement), business (after all that's what it is), langage (do you know how many idioms and sayings have come from baseball to enrich our language?), science (how many physical science teachers have not done a lesson on the projectile of a baseball?), math (statistics, etc.).

It's a sad state indeed when we are barred from using hig-interest contexts to teach real lessons.
