Urban Educ8r: A Wickerblog
This weblog is dedicated primarily to the discussion of Education issues and policies, as well as to chronicling the author's experiences as an inner-city school teacher. These days, the education discussion is too much in the hands of ignorant politicians merely doing what they need to gain re-election, and not enough in the hands of knowledgable professionals with first hand experience.

Georgia Virtual School in Coming

The newly Republican-dominated lagislature is making good on a promise made by Gov. Purdue in his recent State of the State address:

Senate Bill 33...
which "would provide state funds to allow students in all Georgia systems to take online classes in subjects that may not be available in small or rural schools, including rigorous Advanced Placement courses. An amendment would allow home schooled and private school students to participate as well. If approved by the full Legislature, the state hopes to begin the program in August. " (from the AJC 2/1/05)

I think this is pretty cool, especially for students in rural areas who lack access to AP courses they may want to take.

Is this the beginning of the end of the live teacher, however?!?!?!?!?
;-)

Remember in the early 90's, the fear that digital text would spell the end of real books? Some folks felt seriously threatened.
